A3 8V front kit: the short answer
Key takeaways before you send an RFQ
- One front axle record for the Audi A3 8V shell, built from 2012 to 2020, and nothing wider.
- Akebono 8N calipers with 6-piston bodies; the hat and the adapter bracket are machined to your car.
- Your wheel diameter picks the disc row, and the matrix below maps each diameter to its own row.
- We open a quote once the VIN, the wheel spec and the hub data are on our desk.
Why the same 8V is quoted differently in other listings
Three public listings for this chassis disagree on the year line. A UK retailer files it as 12-20, a US tuner writes 2013-2020, and a US brake brand writes 2014 to present. All three describe the same 8V shell and their own application window, not three different cars.
Where the gap comes from
The 8V went on sale in 2012, and the body styles did not arrive together. Sportback, Saloon and Cabriolet each landed in their own year, and a US registration date can sit two or three model years behind the European launch. A listing that sells one body style, or one market, ends up writing a narrower line.
What this page does instead
An Audi A3 8V front brake caliper kit is quoted from the shell plus the record for your own car. Give us the model year and the VIN, and the year argument stops mattering: the record either matches or it doesn’t, and you hear which before anything is charged.
If you are working on the previous Audi A3 8P front brake caliper kit, use that separate vehicle record. The 8P has its own VIN and wheel checks and should not be ordered from this 8V page.
What our fitment desk needs before it quotes an 8V
Seven lines decide whether a front set can be built for your car. Four of them come from you, and the rest we check on our side.
| Record item | What this page holds now | Send with the RFQ |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle identity | Audi A3 8V, front axle, 2012 to 2020 | Model year, body style, VIN or body number |
| Factory brake package | To be confirmed from the VIN | VIN, plus a photo of the option code sticker on mid-cycle cars |
| Factory wheel | Wheel diameter only | Wheel size; factory wheels need no ET or J from you |
| Aftermarket wheel | Not on the record | Diameter, width, ET and J, plus a photo of the spoke and the inner barrel |
| Hub interface | 5×112 with a 57.1 mm centre bore | Tell us if the hub, knuckle or spindle has been changed |
| Front suspension | Not on the record | Extended ball joints, camber plates or coilovers, if fitted |
| Rotor row | Set by wheel diameter | Nothing yet; it follows from the wheel line above |
Wheel size picks the rotor row, not the disc on your car
Planning reference only. Wheels on this record run 18-20 inch, and the rotor row follows the wheel, so the disc that sits on the car today does not choose it.
| Wheel diameter | Rotor row | Confirm before release |
|---|---|---|
| 18 inch | 345/355 mm | Spoke clearance measured with a printed template |
| 19 inch | 380 mm | Same template, the 380 mm row |
| 20 inch | 380/400 mm | Also check the inner barrel at full lock |
Across the three rows the disc diameter runs from 345 mm to 400 mm. The printed template check is a test you run at the wheel before the order goes in, and nothing is released until it comes back from you or your workshop.
Two mix-ups reach us most weeks. The first is reading a hub dimension as proof that a wheel clears the caliper body: 5×112 says the wheel bolts on and nothing more, and the Audi TT runs 5×100, so the brand badge is not the guide. The second is copying a rotor thickness from someone else’s listing. Two-piece kits for this chassis show up in public catalogues at 355 x 32 mm and 378 x 36 mm, and those are market reference sizes, not our specification.
What one front set carries, and where the interfaces stay open
| Component | Quantity | Interface still to check |
|---|---|---|
| Caliper, Akebono 8N 6-piston | 2 calipers | Mount pattern set by the 8N body |
| Adapter bracket | 2 brackets | Machined to your car’s knuckle; no off-the-shelf part |
| Rotor, two-piece | 2 rotors | Diameter from the wheel row; thickness To be confirmed |
| Brake pad | 4 pads | Ceramic friction material, pad shape matched at build |
| Braided hose | 2 hoses | Route and fitting length confirmed from the vehicle record |
| Hat or bell | 2 hats | Machined per vehicle model; the hat – the aluminium centre that the disc ring bolts to – is not a catalogue part |
The set sells as a front axle kit. If you want the calipers on their own, say so in the RFQ and we strip the rest out of the quote.
Installation is normal workshop work: a lift, a torque wrench, a bleeding kit and two people. The calipers are new, so there is no core to hand back.
Materials we can name, and the paperwork we cannot
- Caliper body, hat and adapter bracket: 7050 aluminium alloy.
- Brake pad: ceramic friction material.
- Rotor: high-carbon cast iron.
No drawing, inspection report or bench-test file is held for this SKU. Where a file is missing, the page says so instead of borrowing a line from another kit.
How owners, workshops and resellers order
Owners and workshops
The RFQ needs the model year, the VIN or body number, the wheel size and, for aftermarket wheels, the ET and J numbers. You get back the rotor row that matches your wheel and the parts list that goes with it, and nothing is charged while the record is still open.
Resellers and repair shops
Same record, plus how many sets you plan to hold. One set is the floor, and bigger runs are scheduled into production rather than pulled from a shelf, so tell us the quantity early and we hold the slot.
| Term | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum order | 1 set, sold as a front axle kit |
| Payment | Production starts after a 30% deposit is received |
| Production | 3–7 business days after the deposit and the confirmed record |
| Delivery | About 20–35 business days after production |
| Warranty | 5 years against manufacturing/quality defects only |
| Packing | One export carton of 45 x 45 x 45 cm, about 45 kg measured on our scale |
| Price | No list price. The quote follows caliper colour, hat and bracket machining, rotor row and freight lane |
Caliper colour, bracket colour and hat colour are open to order, so send a code or a sample photo with the RFQ. Reviewed on 2026-09-29 by the fitment desk that maintains this record.
Questions the 8V crowd asks us first
Which A3 8V build does this front set cover?
The 8V shell from 2012 to 2020, front axle. Send the VIN and we check the record for your car, because mid-cycle builds differ in ways a year line never shows.
Is a 19 inch wheel the only route to the 380 mm disc?
No. A 20 inch wheel can take the same 380 mm row, or step up to 400 mm, so the wheel file settles the argument rather than the listing a buyer read elsewhere.
Can I buy the calipers without the rest of the set?
Yes. Say so in the RFQ and the quote comes back with the calipers, hats and brackets.
Does an aftermarket suspension change anything?
It can. Extended ball joints and camber plates move the caliper in relation to the spoke, so those parts belong in the RFQ rather than in a later phone call.
Where does my VIN end up after I send it?
It goes into the record we check for your car and stays off the published page and out of the quote sheet.
What has to happen before the install type changes?
An independent reviewer has to sign a fitment record for this SKU, and none exists yet. Until that file lands, the wording stays as it is.
Reference photos, and what to send next

Open with the model year, the VIN or body number and the wheel size, then add ET and J for aftermarket wheels. We come back with the rotor row, the parts list and the price.
Sources checked on 2026-09-29: the Audi A3 model record for the 8V production window, and Akebono’s high-performance page for the caliper family. Neither source states that this kit suits a particular 8V, and Akebono is named here to identify the caliper we source; SteedLuxParts isn’t affiliated with Akebono.
